A free will offering will be accepted in support of the music scholarships given each year. The choir members will serve a lunch, they have prepared, at a nominal cost of $5.

First Friday

E First Friday, July 1, receptions for July can begin at the Gallery North, 502 Third St. S.W., with showcase artist of the month Joan Wilson who paints portraits, outdoor landscapes and is also a photographer. Her medium of choice is pastels or oil. Wilson will be at the gallery during the 2-5 p.m. reception with the featured gallery artist of the month Marion Reil, watercolor instructor and painter. E Northwoods Gallery and Frame Shop will join the First Friday scene with original artwork from Jane Freeman, Don Houseman, Kathy Gustafson, Pat Schnell, Pat Shough/Sillimandi, Terry Honstead and Duane Shoup. Meet the artists during the 3-6 p.m. reception at the gallery located at 218 Third St. NW.

E Just a couple of doors away is Cabin Coffeehouse and Café, 214 Third St. N.W., and its artists of the month, painter Audrey Merschman and her daughter Cheryl Windels, a wildlife and landscape photographer. Merschman has illustrated a series of 10 children’s books, painted and sold greeting cards through JL Creations and displayed and sold her watercolors and oils primarily through the Cabin. Meet this mother and daughter team during the 4-6 p.m. opening reception. The cabin is open seven days a week.

E Neilson Place will welcome artist Mary Lingen who has won awards in several juried competitions. Her display will remain in place July-October, and a price list of her work will be at the front desk. The opening reception will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. in the front lobby, 1000 Anne St. NW.

E Fleur de Lis Gallery, 501 Bemidji Ave. N., will have on display, “Navigating the Aftermath: The Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project,” which will run from July 1-14. Co-sponsored by Bemidji Community Arts Center and Saarens Productions, this traveling art exhibit explores Iraq’s present and future. The exhibit will conclude with the film “The Unreturned” with director Nathan Fisher at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Wild Rose Theater. The exhibit and film will explore the effects of the Iraq War that charts a course towards healing and reconciliation. Extended gallery hours will be from noon-4 p.m., groups by appointment. The opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Bemidji visit is part of the Navigating the Aftermath Tour that addresses the question: “After eight years into an ongoing war in Iraq, where do we go from here?
