Ross' goes to 'The Rachel Maddow Show'

After emailing some pictures and talking to family on the phone, we headed out to Times Square to check out the NYC nightlife.  Needless to say we were not disappointed!  There were multitudes of people everywhere, I think maybe even more than usual due to the holiday weekend, and that only added to the all of the neon and electricity one already senses in the air.  Even the horses stay up all night in New York, carrying people around in their carriages to take in the sights.  I was really surprised to see so many kiddos out so late even at 2 a.m., enjoying the night with their families and readying for a big holiday weekend. 

Thinking of this immediately made me wonder what my own two little ones would think of all of this. :)  I do miss them terribly, although I know that they have had a great time with the grandparents!  Thanks to the grandparents, my father, Ron, who managed to hold down the fort at Ross' while caring for my 10-year-old daughter Sylvia and to Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers who are caring for my son, Kirin, who is four years old and having the time of his life, I am sure. :)

There are many street artists, street vendors and even a neon-lit NYC police station right in the middle of the square.  For someone who loves to people watch, this may be the ideal spot! One thing I thought to myself as we walked around (that I think was especially important to note on this particular weekend when we celebrate our great nation) was how awesome it was to see so many people from different countries enjoying an evening together in the same space. 

I would be pretty comfortable guessing that all continents were represented.  We met people from Pakistan, Egypt, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Puerto Rico and Japan.  I love the mingling of the different cultures and somehow, it gives me hope for us as a world to interact in peace.  Maybe that sounds a little cheesy, and I will be the first to admit being overwhelmed a little tired and so excited by this whole experience. 

But that's what I am taking away from it, hope for a more peaceful world, along with the tremendous honor of having met a President who makes good on a promise he made three years ago, that the country and media can see still see the value in a small family-run business, and encountering so much kindness in people on this trip -- found in Iowans to New Yorkers and everyone in between, :)  Thanks for sharing this experience; it's truly been an adventure I will never forget!
