Q: How was the Rockography ceremony?

A: I had a great experience with some of the most interesting young people. Beautiful questions, a lot of cameras. Quite a turnout.

Q: What was it like seeing so many people of the younger generation coming out to honor you and the impression you made on music?

A: The music really made it. It’s the music. It’s not me. It’s the music that’s going to live on and on and on. It’s amazing. It’s the music, not me. I’m responsible for bringing them [The Beatles], but they’re responsible for me, for me meeting some of the most interesting people that I’ve been meeting, to get a chance to say hello to new friends.

Q: Is there any modern music that you like to listen to?

A: I’ll tell you, it’s pale, the music I’m hearing now. The music I love is gone. It’s pale beyond words. I try to compare it, what I hear now, and it doesn’t compare, those new artists, those new songs. I still listen, but there’s nothing really that stands out.

Q: How did you first go about bringing The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and so many other artists to America?

A: It was really just out of pure luck. I really feel that the man upstairs has given me a chance to make new friends and meet new people.

Q: Was setting up the concerts for The Beatles at Carnegie Hall and Shea Stadium difficult?

A: No. It must be something I was born to do. It wasn’t difficult. I just did it.

Q: What was the moment like when you saw The Beatles first take the stage at Shea Stadium?

A: I just felt like the luckiest guy in the world. It was exciting. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life. All thanks to The Beatles. I’m grateful for The Beatles, their songs. I’m very grateful for them. I’m a lucky guy. I’m a happy guy. The Beatles made me happy. I didn’t have much to do here.

"Happy Jack" by the Who, "Strawberry Fields Forever" by the Beatles, "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, "There's a Kind of Hush" by Herman's Hermits. In 1967, those were my toys. They were also my refuge, a way of blocking everything else out.

Herman's Hermits, Listen People | Birdland

During the mid sixties, Herman’s Hermits were second only to The Beatles in terms of record sales, but the band was more than just a pop phenomenon, they crafted some of the most enjoyable music of the era. Herman’s Hermits: Listen People 1964-1969 is the group’s first official DVD release and features 22 complete songs filmed from 1964 to 1969 that sets the record straight on one of the most underrated bands of the sixties. Included are the classic hits ‘I’m Into Something Good’, ‘Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat’, ‘Wonderful World’, ‘Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter’, ‘I’m Henry VIII, I Am’ and ‘There’s A Kind Of Hush’ as well as later masterpieces ‘No Milk Today’, ‘Listen People’ and their cover of The Kinks’ ‘Dandy.’ In between the performances, original members Peter Noone, Keith Hopwood, Karl Green and Barry Whitwam talk about the songs and tell the band’s history in new interviews filmed exclusively for the DVD. The bonus features include a 24-minute concert filmed in 1966 for Australian television, a commentary track with Keith Hopwood and Karl Green and an additional 15 minutes of exclusive interviews including the band’s great recollections about the 1967 Hermits/Who tour. This DVD is one of the first four releases in the British Invasion series and is sold individually or as part of the British Invasion Box set along with Gerry & The Pacemakers: It’s Gonna Be All Right 1963-1965, Small Faces: All Or Nothing 1965-1968 and Dusty Springfield: Once Upon A Time 1964-1969 and an exclusive bonus disc with over 2 1/2 hours of additional content.
