First day for everybody: After more than a year of searching, teacher finds ...

Lincoln Unified is one of the last school districts in San Joaquin and Calaveras counties to return to his students in the class. With deep budget cuts and serious academic challenges, many school districts are finding new ways to deliver public education. The result is a series of "firsts" - for administrators, teachers, schools, parents and students. Lincoln Unified situation is somewhat different. The district has enough money to hire new teachers and to create his own series of "firsts". The final part is a series regular.

Stockton - Wednesday, 12 years Jackson Goudreau began the sixth year in school Mable Barron, in the Lincoln Unified School District, and he was nervous.

"There are new teachers here," he said. "It was kind of scary."

Then he met his master, and the lunch hour, he was at ease.

"I feel incredible," he said. "This is the best teacher ever." If a student is in trouble, he said, "She just write your name on the table - not an evil frown eyebrows on his face."

Professor Jackson, Valerie Maurice battled nerves as well. She had attended Mable Barron as a child and graduated from Lincoln High School before moving on to California State University, Fullerton.

But Maurice has completed its certification program for teachers at a time when school districts across the state were to lay off teachers, in some cases, hundreds at a time.

It took over a year to land his first teaching job - back to Mable Barron, on Wednesday where she was presented to students for the first time that their teacher.

"My personal goal is to stay organized," said Maurice. "My goal as a class, is to have them continue to do what they do today: They are at the task, they are nice to each other."

Lincoln Unified hired about 50 teachers this year, a move that has become relatively rare among public school systems. Many of his recruits were dismissed earlier, some of Lincoln and some other districts. Some, such as Mauritius, are new to the profession.

"It's a long interview process," Mable Barron Principal Ellen Wehrs said."Looking good answers, but you are also looking for the spirit ... or personality that you feel is tolerant, flexible and enthusiastic. I think, increasingly, teachers have to balance all the standards and having high scores, but still having that "the quality of X 'to be a neat person. That's what we wanted.

Only 4 days until I know more Gooder hits the shelves (virtual)! YAY! My main has never given me permission to post my flyer above the sign of the clock in the office, so I stuck to the refrigerator door in the living room of the teacher. I'm not sure that many people saw it, because not many of my colleagues said they would like to order a copy (they would not necessarily even if the leaflet was to face up) . Still, I'm excited it's gonna be a few more days! Tonight I was in school up to 7, with the last 3 hours is Meet the Teacher Night.Last year, we do not have much of a connection, so I was able to use most of the time to continue working in my room. This year, however, we had an almost constant stream of parents and children come talk to us. My new partner told the second year last year, so he knows that many of these children, and he said we have a whole lot of poor college students. Oh well. Nowhere to go but up, right?
