Former Makar Edwin Morgan shows his support for the Gnats ... and pads the ...
Quite rightly, a Gnat spokesbloke described this “an incredible artistic and literary legacy for Teuchterdom”.
In total Mr Morgan left £2 million, which is an amazing sum for a poet not one of whose verses was used as the basis for a hit West End musical. Apparently, most of the dosh was held in stocks and shares. In my experience, this is not normal behaviour for poets, most of whom have barely a bean to spare.
Many a time and oft I have turned up at book launches and sic like gatherings where around the trough are to be found poets sweeping on the freebie nibbles and booze like ravenous gannets. And before nitpickers ask if there is any other kind of gannet, let me say that there are. For example, there is the poet gannet who swoops on handouts with electric speed, shamelessly hoovering up grants and sinecures.
Mr Morgan, however, appears to have a higher opinion of the species than I. As well as enriching the Gnats, he has left another of his millions to founding an annual prize for young poets. This, of course, was entirely his prerogative. But in the unlikely event that I have a million or two to pass on, rest assured that none of it will end up in the pockets of “poets”.
ANDY Murray. Here we go again. On to centre court he ambles, his face smothered in a gingery, candy floss-like fuzz. Not good. He looks like he should be in Slade, not carrying the hopes and fears of an entire nation which for 50 weeks of the year associates Wimbledon with the Wombles.
Mr Murray, obviously hampered by the fuzz, drops the first set. Oh woe are we! The second set looks no more hopeful. Whoever he’s playing plays better than he’s played ever before in his entire career. Or so the commentators keep saying when Mr Murray is having one of his wobbles. At 3-3 in the second set I decide I cannot watch any more and go off to have my toenails pulled out, which is marginally less excruciating. Exactly at this point, I learn later, Oor Andy, obviously sensing my absent displeasure, breaks Mr Whoever’s serve and proceeds thereafter to win 15 games in a row and cruise to victory. The cruelty of the man is epic.
MY dear republican amigo Roseanna Cunningham, Meenister for Community Safety, has received pelters for suggesting that singing God Save Queen Tupperware or Flower of Teuchterdom could be deemed “problematic” and, indeed, offensive. Heaven forfend!
I say this as someone who never consciously goes out of his way to cause offence. While I would not describe myself as the Mahatma Gandhi of diarists, my overriding aim in life and work is to spread peace and harmony, hence my resolution never to sing in public.

28, 2011 03:30 PM Question: Any idea how to get rid of gnats? Hundreds of them are living in my outside and inside plants. I have tried apple-cider vinegar and the little covers I place in the plants are full of tiny bugs every morning.

"I don't know anything that (controls gnats)," said Rigdon. Since there is no way to get rid of gnats, there are ways that people can try to repel them. Rigdon said if you purchase pure vanilla and rub drops behind your ears and on your neck it helps
She suggests spraying under the leaves of the plants. Then there are mosquitoes and gnats that can routinely interrupt picnics and barbecues at any time of day or night. She says the product Absorbine Jr. rubbed on the neck keeps the gnats away.
Buffalo gnats are often worse for adults because they haven't been bitten enough by the insects for their bodies to shrug off the saliva's effects. It's worse for other gnat victims -- the gnats have been known to kill birds.
does anyone know a natural remedy to get rid of gnats and spider ...
My house plants keep getting weak and some have died. right now i have mini roses with mites, gerbera daisies and schizanthus with gnats and their larvae. I know the gnat larvae feed on the plant roots, so i think these are mainly the ones that are weakening my plants. I keep these plants in my house and balcony. I would rather not use pesticides, so I’m looking for a natural way to kill them or prevent infestation in the future.
