Overton's run ends with bogeys at 14 and 15; he finished tied for third ...
Jeff Overton seems to like Aronimink Golf Club, having finished third and tied for third in the two years that the AT&T National has been competed there.
And while he was pleased with the way he played after a final-round 67 got him a share of third place Sunday with Charles Howell III and Adam Scott, 4 strokes behind winner Nick Watney, Overton continues to seek that elusive first career victory in his sixth season on the PGA Tour.
"Oh man, I mean . . ." said Overton, striving for the right words at the thought. "You've just got to let it happen. Still, even if I don't make a few hiccups today, I would have had to play a phenomenal round of golf to beat Nick."
Overton, 28, had the best year of his career in 2010, with more than $3.45 million in earnings and a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. But he didn't win, settling for second place four times, and hoped the new year would bring him into the winner's circle just once.
But his season-best performance here was only his third top-10 finish of the season out of 17 tournaments. He found some positives during the week, though, particularly with his driver and his putter.
"I played great," he said. "I've been kind of struggling all year. I haven't been able to make any putts; I've been hitting it pretty good. I'm starting to put it together. Other than a little bit of a hiccup in the first round [a 71], I played pretty well this week. It's pretty exciting, and I hope it carries over to the British Open."
Overton had a good run going Sunday. Back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12 - his fourth and fifth of the day - got him to 11 under and within a stroke of Watney. But he said he got "a little bit out of rhythm" at the 14th when tour officials put him and his playing partners, Bryce Molder and Charlie Wi, on the clock for being behind in pace of play.
Bogeys at 14 and 15 followed, knocking him out of contention.
"It kind of messes with your round a little bit," Overton said. "We kind of struggled after waiting at 9 and 10 and 11, and we get put on the clock after waiting at 14 for 20 minutes. It was unfortunate, but it happens, and that's the nature of the game. You've got to be tougher than that."
Overton, who lives in Bloomington, Ind., has had success in the Philadelphia area before. While a student at Indiana, he finished as qualifying medalist in the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the former East course at Blue Heron Pines near Atlantic City. He made it to the quarterfinals of match play before losing.

, The courses are actually based on the images captured by high resolution cameras onboard the Cassini–Huygens spacecraft launched in 1997 to study Saturn, so what you're playing on top of really looks like Enceladus, Tethys, and the planet's other moons.
You'll also have to keep in mind the different gravitational pulls on each of the moons when swinging your ball to the marked craters. Hyperion's gravity, for example is 500 times weaker than Earth's, so it's pretty easy to knock your ball out of the moon.
