Nearly 30 Quadriplegics and Paraplegics Learn to Skateboard at Venice Beach ...

PRESS RELEASE

WHAT:
On Saturday, June 25, Life Rolls On Foundation (LRO) will host the They Will Skate Again SHOE CITY Open at the Venice Skate Park, where quadriplegics, paraplegics and amputees will challenge disability to learn to skateboard. In addition to an adaptive skateboard clinic, this unique event will include a professional skate demonstration and adaptive skate contest featuring a $10,000 prize purse. For safety, the SHOE CITY Open adaptive skate contest is open only to experienced adaptive skaters. Music by KROQ, giveaways, and prizes will add to the exciting day of activity, which will take place alongside the Venice Boardwalk, which attracts more than 44,000 people each day.

"They Will Skate Again" is a spin-off of Life Rolls On's popular and award-winning adaptive surfing program "They Will Surf Again." Through the platform of action sports, LRO helps individuals discover the limitless possibilities beyond paralysis. This is the second They Will Skate Again event hosted by Life Rolls On, which launched the program in March 2010.
Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham, famous for successfully landing the first wheelchair backflip, and Christiaan "Otter" Bailey will lead the instruction for paralyzed and amputee athletes, while professional skater and industry pioneer of Dogtown's Z-Boys Jim Muir will lead the coaching of adaptive stand-up skaters. Also making a guest appearance as a celebrity coach will be Hawaii Five-O star and popular Life Rolls On volunteer Scott Caan.

Underwritten by the generous support of SHOE CITY, this event is provided at no cost to participants. Sponsors for the They Will Skate Again SHOE CITY Open include Vans, Etnies, Ezekiel, Venice Skate Association, Pro-Tec, KROQ, Function Drinks, Popeye Moving & Storage, and Sweet Treats. Additional donors include: Dogtown Skateboards, Eric "Tuma" Britton, Maui & Sons, Pink's, Rider Shack, Rob Dyrdek, TK Burgers, Tony Hawk, Tustin Awards, Val Surf, Xtreme Boardshop, and WMG.

WHEN:
Saturday, June 25, 2011; 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

How to do a 50-50 grind on a skateboard

Once you learn the 50-50, you can try them on different obstacles, like flat rails, or even try doing a 180 out. When you get comfortable with them, try 5-0 grinds too. I have been skateboarding for over a decade, and in my time skating,

Secrets of Skateboarding: How To Do Skateboard Tricks

562ole Said,

thats why tony waters is a sponsored skater right

MrMMABoy Said,

the only thing you need is to controll your mind only on the board and stop thinging about the stuff around you or maybe just before you go skate relax your mind. after i started doing this i started to land all of my tricks every try and learned new tricks muuch faster like 2 days or so

Sk8volation Said,

Mainly listening to the music lol @RENZOKUKEN555 Tried it your a sk8 genius bro i tryed it with like 8 tricks and landed like all of them(eventually)!!! Man, you should get your strategy out cause it works

matbroomfield Said,

@JoshhLyons When I was trying to learn ollies, I watched so many videos, but they all seemed to miss what for me were the most important steps – this guy explained those steps, confirming what I’d finally worked out by trial and error. I don’t know if his method is for everyone – some people just seem to want to try and try, without really understanding what they’re trying to do, but if you’re like me, and you need to know the exact steps to go through, then I think you’ll like it.

matbroomfield Said,

@562ole Bullshit it’s a scam! It’s real. I just read a copy. It’s very badly put together, and the guy writes in a bit of an excitable way, but the actual content is great – exactly what it says on the pack. Loads of useful detail. There’s nothing wrong with the fact that he wants to make money from our desire to improve, so long as HE PROVIDES A VALUABLE PRODUCT – HE DOES! I detest his style of marketing, with all the hyperbole, which makes him look dishonest, but the actual ebook is gold.

matbroomfield Said,

@RENZOKUKEN555 It’s not weird – it’s smart, what you did is called “visualisation”. Confidence and a clear understanding of the steps that your body must go through are key to success, and that’s exactly what you were doing. Smart guy – you figured out on your own what sports coaches have been teaching for decades. No sarcasm meant.

matbroomfield Said,

@8harveyj Nonsense – It makes me laugh that there are millions of people out there slogging away at skateboarding with brute determination and ignorance, and ignoring decades of accelerated learning techniques that can make a massive difference. I approach everything analytically, with a progressive approach to building my skills, and I am very happy with MOST of my progress. Not read this book yet, so can’t comment, but his approach seems intelligent.
