Concerned taxpayer Deana Bess wants an answer. "I don't think that we should ever throw out a taxpayer dollar," she said.
In an e-mail response NBC2 obtained through a public records request, administrator Gary Brown told Bess, "Some of the custodians made a mistake and put some of these instruments in the dumpster."

Brown says he spoke with BCHS Principal Tim Kutz about the matter personally.
For Bess, it comes down to one word: waste. "I'm concerned that our taxpayer dollars are not being managed well," she said.
Bess and Duane Billington have been pushing the district for information on who gave the order to toss the instruments.
"We want answers to our questions, no more and no less," Billington said.
Billington plans to file a criminal complaint with the Collier County Sheriff's Office, calling this an "illegal taking" of public property.
At least we'll get an investigation, because what I'm seeing here, we're not getting any satisfactory action from the school system," Billington said.
The school district would not allow anyone to speak on camera but did respond to e-mailed questions. The district told NBC2 "All these instruments have now been picked up and taken to the warehouse."
The district sends extra supplies to a warehouse behind Shadowlawn Elementary School in Naples. NBC2 was not allowed inside, but Bess has been in there.
"They look like Home Depot shelves and they're piled high," Bess said. "There are very tall stacks of computers and TVs and smart boards and chairs."
According to the district, "The warehouse staff generally determines the fate of this property based upon its condition."
The district provided the following information about the warehouse facility and keeping inventory:
Schools and other District offices first determine if their property is unsalvageable (obsolete, uneconomical or impossible to repair, a safety hazard, provides no useful function, or inefficient), repairable or usable. The property description and its condition is then documented on a Surplus Property Form and transferred to the warehouse. Once the property crosses the warehouse property line, it becomes the property and responsibility of the warehouse. The warehouse staff generally determines the fate of this property based upon its condition.
