Attorney General Sues Scott Depot Photographer For Scam
A Scott Depot photographer is the target of a suit filed June 23 in Kanawha County Circuit Court by West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw.McGraw sued Stephen R. Ross and his modeling agency because of several violations of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.
Consumers filed complaints against Ross, saying he had failed to deliver photographs, portfolios, modeling jobs and other services to customers, a news release from the Attorney General’s Office states.
The suit seeks the business to cease illegal activities as well as pay full refunds to affected customers, the release states.
The release states that in one case, Ross was hired by a Charleston woman to act as a modeling agent for her teenage daughter.
The woman paid Ross $1,000 for photo shoot and also entered her daughter into a modeling pageant, which would be promoted by his company, the release states. This pageant never happened, however.
The release mentioned a separate instance where Ross had put up flyers promoting this pageant and had “misrepresented” that his company was looking for candidates for top modeling agencies.
“Sadly, an entire industry has developed to fleece those who dream of becoming a model,” McGraw said in the release. “These enterprises prey upon peoples’ hopes while betting on consumers’ lack of knowledge about how the modeling industry really works.
