As a person, I’m chilled out (to the point of being lazy). I used to be quite short-tempered until a few years ago — until I realised that losing your cool doesn’t really help in any situation. Right now, I am in a phase where I am very optimistic about life, mainly because I get to do what I want. I believe in my craft and I believe in myself. But I also understand that I have miles to go, and the journey will never really end.R-eject I was working as a radio jockey in Mumbai when a theatre director from Delhi cast me in a TV commercial. I found that I loved being in front of the camera — also I had no other option as I’d been fired from my job at the radio station! But I loved performing, being able to convince people of the emotions my character is experiencing.
I didn’t know too many people from the film industry when I first came to Mumbai, but working at a radio station was helpful. Initially, I faced rejections, rejections and even more rejections. There are opportunities for everyone, but if you have a narrow range of options (I knew I wanted a primary role), then your chances too are limited. So my journey was much harder.
Lessons learnt the hard way My friend set me up on a date once with a girl who spent the entire evening asking me about my favourite colour, favourite food etc. Needless to say, we didn’t see each other again. I think that sort of thing is an absolute no-no when you’re on a date.
When I want to ask a woman out, I don’t use cheesy pick-up lines. I prefer “Hi, I’m Shiv”. As for being labelled a “chick magnet”, I’m just a magnet — I attract all kinds!
