Armed with spears
I learned a little about it last year when we did our first report on the spearfishing for Hook, Line & Sinker. At that time, I was just trying to figure out what this style of fishing was all about and fairly well Stamm said you can not really write the story without giving it a try. In other words, he took me for a dip in the river along the Manasquan train trestle. "I want everyone to be safe diving. This is the most important thing. The second most important thing is that everyone follows the rules. They only shoot what theyre going to eat and dont use innocent fish for target practice, Stamm said sitting behind the counter of his new shop, located on Channel Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. Spearfishing, when done right, has zero by-catch. You wait for your fish, you shoot the one you want and youre done. But learning to judge the size of things and learning to handle a spear under the water are things that take practice. Theres no need to litter the floor with bergalls, an unfortunate favorite of those still learning to spearfish. Diving in the river was one thing, but diving a jetty is another. Out in the ocean you have to deal with the swells. As I floated the surface the swells were either shooting water down the snorkel or sending me further away from the target. I stopped floating and walked out to where I remembered seeing the target sink, took a deep breath and submerged. I put my hands on the sand and crawled, pole spear in one hand. The visibility was about six feet. Its not that the water was dirty but each time a swell would come it would turn up the sandy bottom. I surfaced, took another breath and went back to the bottom. This time taking a seat on the ocean floor and trying to get my bearings. I could see the change in color as the floor slanted slightly into the deep.DIY travel/breakdown spear for spear fishing (Hawaiian sling)?

I am looking for either a ready made solution for the spear shaft, or some suggestions regarding some good harware that could be used to attach shaft sections that I can get myself (I can cannibalize some nice graphite shafts from cheap, used golf clubs at the local thrift store). The spear points aren't an issue because I can buy them or make them myself, but I am looking for a spear shaft with fairly specific requirements.
